A wide
collection of German jet and missile
technology dating from WWII can be found at
the German Technical Museum
in Berlin. The museum showcases
Germany's scientific and engineering
achievements by presenting a broad
spectrum of old and new technology,
featuring permanent exhibitions which
include the evolution of trains, planes,
automobiles, boats, aerospace, and more.
Artifacts include: V-1 Flying Bomb, V-2 engine
assembly, V-2 combustion chambers, Henschel Hs
293, Henschel Hs 117 Schmetterling,
Flugzeugrakete R4M, two examples of the
Rheintochter R1, Walter HWK 109-509 rocket
engine, and the Heinkel He 162 A-2 Volksjäger.
The rocket displays are
located on the 4th floor in the far corner of
the museum, making them a bit difficult to
find. An impressive two-story high V-2 engine
assembly leads to a couple of rusted
combustion chambers from the Mittelwerk
tunnels. Additionally, there are a number of
other recognized missiles and the Heinkel He
162. The information plaques are written in
German with English summaries. Plan to spend an entire day. >
